Hey all;

I am in Moab. Here is a summary of my trip.

On Monday Sept 3rd. I drove from Charlotte to Jackson, MS. I did stop on the way just outside of Atlanta (Fort Yaris) for a 11 mile MTB ride.

I worked on Sept 4th in Jackson and started to drive that night. I got just past Dallas and grabbed a hotel.

Past Dallas, Texas gets very boring. It all looks like this:

In New Mexico I took a break;

I did break my front Robot servo, and Hitec has sent me the replacements for the ones that caught on fire. The only problem is that the Hitec shipment arrived on Tuesday and I was already gone. I just have to hope that the 2.2s servo does not break on Saturday, and then I can use it to run the Super.

And now I am in my Hotel room

It is raining hard here, but I hope it will dry up inthe morning so I can go explore some MTB trails.

Went out to the site today with 7+ other guys. There are lots of lines and very good traction. But it is very hot.

One of my Mamba 25s has died. I hope that Holmes has some spares when he comes. Other wise I have to share the ESCs between trucks.

2 of the SERCRC guys are here, two of the Washington club are here and some other guys.

The rocks are brutally abrassive. I ran a near new set of Moabs (not losis) today and they are all fraided and look like crap. They have more wear on them from a pack and a half, then my other set of Moabs that I have been running in the East for over a year, including all our comps and the Augusta comps.

I am going to do an intermediate trail tonight and will attempt the Slick Rock trail tomorrow (estimated 5 hour ride).

Good luck Rene! Take as many pics as you can! Did you make this trip alone? If so that is a terrible waste of the passenger seat in the Tundra. tongue

Its 5:30 Mountain time, Tech check is 7 AM.

Starbucks opens at 6:00 AM. I am going to pack the truck and go get coffee and then come back to the hotel and wake up adquately.

Holmes did not bring any Mamba Maxs, so I had to steal a Mamba 25 out of the Super to get the 2.2 rtr. I also bought some memory foams of Frank Rizzo last night. And mounted up a fresh set of Claws (thanks Tony).

Thanks to everyone for there support and help. Time to go and hurt some egos.

I placed 15th out of 60 in the 2.2.

My first course (course 2) went very well. I hit two gates and scored 17. This was very respectable. On this cours I was 3rd out of 60.

The second course (course 3)was a disaster, I got up most of the first climb and rolled back and broke a delrin Axle. I should have taken a repair, but kept trying. Unfortunately the truck would not hook up with the flopping rear wheel. I did not get a single progress point. Score 40, that is dead last.

The third course (course 1) I did well again and got 3 gates but finished. On this course I was 11th/60.

Gate Keeper from SERCRC won.

I think that I was so completely surprized at the axle housing busting that I kind off just pretended that it did not happen, I guess I just failed to keep my cool.

I guess I have to try to do better with the Super.

I have to find a way to stiffen the front servo mount, install a new servo, install 4 new shocks (RC4wd full metal with internal springs) and install new tire foams in the front.

Well, I know that my opinion doesn't mean anything but I will give it anyway.

First off Rene I think it is pretty freakin awesome that you were even willing to make the trip, especially alone. I can't even imagine how much dedication this must have taken and how much it must have taken away from your personal life. Secondly, you stood tall in the standings even though you had some troubles with the axle. I would be almost willing to bet had that not happened to you your finish would have been substantially better. Top ten at worst possibly top five. Third, you finished 15th out of 60 of the BEST drivers in the nation. I have never been a genius but if my math serves me correctlty that is in the top 25%. I would love to know that I could even qualify for the nationals little alone finsih in the top 25%. For that you are a winner in my book. I think you done an excellent job as a driver and as a representative of CRR. I would personally like to congradulate you on your accomplishment and your achievements as a builder and a driver. Good luck in the Super Class!

Hey everybody we have a club memeber that is in the top 25% in the nation. That is pretty damn awesome in my opinion.

I will mail the $0.02 later. Laughing

Very well said Harold. Just getting to compete in Moab is an acomplishment. Your finish is very respectable. Like Tony said, good luck with the super. It seems to be more your speed.

Above all else enjoy the trip. It looks like you have already. The experience is what you will remember.

Here are the final #s of my Nationals;

I am 12th in the Country. (Super and 2.2 combined)
I am 15th in the Country in 2.2.
I am 31st in the Country in Super.

Thank you for all the support from everyone.

Special thanks to;
- Holmes Hobbies (help with power systems)
- RC4wd (came through in a hurry the week before Nationals)
- Brandon (organizing our club so I had a place to qualify for Nationals)
- Dough (for helping polish and machine the 2.2)
- Every single CRR member, for paying the entry fee for Nationals

I could have done better in all classes and all course, it all came down to driving skills. I was not proficient with my DX-6s. The courses were hard, the drivers were awesome, and everything was fair. There is no should have, could have etc... This event is history.

Things that would have improved my scores;

1. I should have built the National rigs earlier so that I knew how to drive them.

2. CRR needs to send more then one person, it is very lonely, depressing to be the only person who came out there without a buddy or several buddies. I know plenty of the other guys, but they are against you, having a teammate would have made life easier. (Also the financial strain could be reduced to around $600ish (maybe even 400 if 3 guys go), rather then $1200 it cost me).

3. More drive time on the 2.2 would have broken the rear axle before the comp.

4. Bringing day tent. The climate is very hard on Easterners out there.

5. Run harder courses at our comps.
