PostSubject: WK or TLT   Mon 30 Jul 2007, 08:56

Hey guys as most of you know I have been away for a while and the WK was just getting established when I left the hobby pale. Anyway I am looking to buy some parts to build another rig and was wondering what the pros and cons of the WK kit are? I am pretty familiar with the TLT but I will only have one rig this time so I want to be sure I do it right the first time. I know the TLT is discontinued but it seems as though the parts are still somewhat available and RCP still sells the entire axle kits. Anyways you get the idea so let me know what you guys think on this.

Oh yeah I am assuming that you can use the stock WK tranny or is it like the TLT tranny (useless)? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey

The wheely King axles are wider, stronger (in stock form) and have a little less after market support (This is becoming less true every day).

The TLT axles are much better for scale stuff, as you know. For a comp buggy this may not be important.

As for the trannies, the wheelyking tranny is kind of big and the motor sits way above the out drives. So the motor plate would have to be reconfigured, but the tranny is still big. You can just get a RC4wd transmission that allows you to have a dig set up integrated in the tranny. (RC4WD R2 V2 with rear disconnect, avail end of July)

I am staying with TLT axles this year and may switch the comp buggy to Wheelyking stuff next year.

hey Big Red

After the last comp, I have come to the conclusion that narrow gets trampled by plain brute force and wheel speed and size.

The wheelie kings did great especialy at the last course.

And the SW2 (tony's) was just a hair over regulation size, proving that bigger is better. (No Tony I am no whinning, you had all of our blessings, from here on forward any 2.2 out of spec will have the pleasure of running against the supers).

i know your not Rene. it will be legal next time i promise. like i said i just put it together and put it on shelf.glad i took 1st though. anyway.

Harold i vote for tlt axles. scale especially. wk's do great but like everyone said they are a little too wide. but that does help as far as the off camber spots.

I am just very impressed with the durability of the wheelie king axles. I have been waiting for one to let go, because plenty of our wheelie king pilots get bound up and just hit the gas to try and get out.

I know that my TLT axles would have cr@pped all over themselves in the same situation.

If you are looking for durability then WK is the way to go. As far as the width, My TLT axles with wideners and Pede rears narrowed are just a fraction shorted. the WK's are strong. If you clock the motor plate like Wade you gain a lower COG and more mounting and gearing options.

i too have been very impressed with the trucks that have WK axles at our comps. now that RCP has a CVD kit for them i think they are going to kill at comps. i think i could get used to having a wider truck. The wk is 1 inch wider than mine( tlt axles with the larger spacer that comes with the cvd's and 1 1/4 inch wide rims)

i think next year i will use the tlt axles i have and put them on scale trucks and get the WK axles for comp's

glad to hear you might be coming out to the bullhole Harlod Very Happy

I see few bad parts to WKs. I for one though don't like the width. But that's my take. Other than that, they are strong.

Ok, here's the skinny on what I know after building, experimenting, and maintining five WK. Three of my trucks have ran I belive six comps, several free crawls with the club and I wouldn't even attempt to guess how many hours of play time. I have had(knock on wood) zero rear end or tranny failure. Dustin ran the newest truck yesterday and I have to take the trans apart and tighten up the slipper, it way to loose. The trucks are a little wide and if I had it all to do over again rather than run pede front wheels i would have run the rears so the width would be closer to 11" rather than the current 12". With that said they are very stable. I like the wide stance, some gates are tight(and bridges suck) Smile but for an experienced driver the stability is worth it. For someone with less experience like my boys and pops the narrower stance would be more forgiving. I have never ran any tlt stuff, so I dont know if there better or not. Hope this helps, just drop me a line if you have any questions.

he'd be the man to listen too on CRR as far as WKs go. Gates are tight from what ive seen though! i would experiment with some sort of front dig, that may helps a little.

Yeah I think I am going to try to get on the list for one of those R2 tranny with the rear disconnect. I think that would help alot. I am going with the WK axles for now and I will see how I like them. Thanks for all the input!
