PostSubject: CRR mid season report card. Everyone please chime in.   Sun 08 Jul 2007, 20:11

Hey everyone,

I wanted to post this topic so we can discuss the state of our club. We are 3/4 of the way thru our first season. What are we doing right? What are we doing wrong? What are we overlooking? Here is a chance for everyone to chime in. I want to see everyone involved with this thread.

I also want to know your ideas on attracting new members. It seems weekly I get emails from people asking about our club. I try to give them info and invite them to join us. But for whatever reason they don't seem to come out. In order for our club to grow we need new people.

We have also lost a few people. Where are they? Why haven't we seen you. Is it something the club is doing that made you leave.

Don't get me wrong. I have enjoyed the season so far. But I also want our group to grow. A larger group can only mean better things for the club. Bigger events, better prizes, and more fun will come with a better turn out.

We are doing ok with money. Our entry fees are covering awards, food, and prizes. But just barely. I had hoped to build a reserve for club expenses. Right now those are coming out of my pocket. I had hoped the turn outs would increase as the summer went on. I just need to relook at what we are doing money wise.

So chime in people. but please try to keep it constructive. If you have a question, comment, or concern but don't want to post it please pm me. We can keep it between you and I. We are in this together so let's work together to make it better. It isn't my club it is our club.

Yeah i've been wondering what happened to a few people myself. i think we are growing slowly but surely.

Not what we were expecting i guess, but growing none the less.
As far as I'm concerned,I'm hear for good.Have a blast everytime we go out.and also this is my ciggarette now.Alot better for my health, but cost more. oh well.

I have talked to a few people also about the club. got a couple to join the site so far. just no shows.

To me, it seems like newbies see this as an interesting sort of game, till they see how much must be spent to build a crawler. Let's face it, there ain't a rig in our club that didn't cost at least 300 dollars. When they see what is need to build one, it puts them off abit. I just don't see anyway around that. As far as club wise, to grow as a club we need to target the RC community. Those that know what it costs to build and maintain a RC.
Just my 2 cents.

good points Timmy about the costs of this addiction/sport if we call it that now. i do. excersise, fun, get away.just not getting paid like these no non-sense high $$$$$$ paid people.
It can definately be expensive of kinds inexpensive also. depending on what you want and are willing to spend on it.
Also atleast they do hold kinda their value and can be usually sold for around what we have in them.

yeah, i dont think the club is whats putting people off. One thing we could maybe work on is streamlining the course setup somehow. We are still fairly small and if we get any bigger a full comp will take two days. Im not real sure how to resolve this issue. Its something i was thinking about before this post was made. Maybe we need another club official to handle signups while brandon and randy set up courses. I dont have any complaint about the way the courses are set up, i think they are always laid out great, it just takes too long to get it rolling. I dont thnk its anyones fault, we just havent figured out the best way to do it.

hey all;

I am having a great time with this club. Here are my thoughts;

Todays spot was to small. We were all over each other. And it was too out of the way. I think our #1 thing toget the club to grow is to find good locations. Preferably visible and very easy to walk to. Having to cary RC stuff over rocks accross the creek (geting my cart stolen), is a deterent.
If we all keep our eyes open for better spots we will grow.

About the $: I love the awards, but I would much rather have the awards just be end of series, rather then every comp. (two series per year)

I would like to see the following next year, divide the year up into two series (4 to 5 events each), have the first series be 2.2 and Super and the second 2.2 and Scale 2.2. That way the first series can be used as a nationals qualifier and the second series can be run at smaller locations with less challenging terain.

The pace of our comps is way to slow. The running order is announced and we should implement that you have 3 min after the guy ahead of you to start your course. If you are not there 50 points, if you are unable to start due to technical reasons, you get repair points and up to a half hour to start. We can do these comps alot more efficiently.

If it is agreeable to the majority I will take on the task of being lead course designer.

in my opinion, 2.2 isnt technically scale, its like running 44x22' dick cepecks on a truck. i'd like to see a 1.9 class. but as it sits we dont have enough time to run the classes we already have.

Hey Big Red

I agree with your comment, but 1.9 are so incapable compared to a 2.2 comp truck that they may be too boring. And 44 are DOT legal, that scale enough.

If the group want to do 1.9s, I will build one, and I gues its easy enough to find some rocks to challenge those.

44's are only DOT legal if you can keep them between the fenders you'd have to have icelandic fenders to be technically be street legal pirat

Nope, in North Carolina there is no lift laws other than your outside measurement does not exceeds eight feet. That means no bumper drops, fender flares, or mud flaps. Most states have stuff like that in the rule books. Galloways' LOG HOG had custom leaf springs and 49 Irocs. Seen all over the place when they first lifted it. Now that the 54" Boggers are out I would not be surprised to see it on them in the near future.

The way things are now I think we should drop the super class all together. I do agree that we could speed things up a little but I don't really care because I don't want to go home. Mad Anywho thats a whole other story. I also agree that we don't really need prizes at every comp, but it is nice to get something every now and then.
"And that all I got to say about that." lol!

Nick slow down and proof read what you write. It takes a long time to read what you post. The only reason I say drop it is because its only three people with that compete. Supers cost alot of money and not everybody can afford a 2.2 and a super. I have a super and it sits on the shelf in my basement. I have no reason to get it out except on special events. I'll pull my little boy around the yard in his wagon and stuff like that. Anywho that was my 2 cents.

Hey

The running of the supers should not be contingent on participation but we should satisfy all nationally sanctioned classes.

Its great that people are commenting. I agree that not everyone can afford a super and a 2.2 comp truck. It is equally true that the majority will not be able to have a 2.2 comp and a scale.

That is why the 2.2 comp class is the most important.

I do feel that we as a club should make it possible for members to qualify for the national in all classes offered for the nationals. Or eastern championships or what ever the future holds. Having a series that acts as qualifiers in all classes ads credibility to our clubs. If we are not going to run a series that work under nationally sanctioned classes, then we can just have GTGs.

Ok, I have sat back and saw what some of you had to say. Thank you for keeping it constructive so far. I will add my 2 cents to a couple of your points.

I do agree we need to streamline the comps a bit. I really enjoy setting up our courses. So I don't want to give that up just yet. I think we can try in the future to set up courses while we do sign ups. Randy does a good job at sign ups and tech. I just may ask a few more people to help out with the process.

With that said I don't want to get to rushed. I think the pace of our comps is good. I just think we need to speed up some of the down time. In other words course setup, lunch break, etc. Let's not forget to slow down and enjoy ourselves. Sometime it seems everyone just wants to finish and go home. Remember this is our hobby so let's enjoy it.

As far as classes go. We have enough time for 2 classes it seems. I am not willing to add another class at this time. I will run 2.2 and super for the rest of the season. Just as long as there is 3 or more entries. Anything less just makes no sense. I would hate to see the super class die. But for some of us it is just to much. This winter we can vote on and decide what classes we will run next season. But for this season we will stick with what we have been doing.

As far as the awards go. I am out of plaques right now. With only 2 events left I can't see ordering another case of 40. Especially with 3 guys running in super. Maybe we should skip the awards for the last 2 events. I could take some of that money and put it towards a few more prizes. This will also help set aside some money for year end awards Tell me what you all think. If you guys are dead set on plaques I will order more.

Plaques are just proof of bragging rites, skip the plaques and let the points do the talking. I'd rather have a nice award at the end.

Hey there

We do not need plaques for the last two events. I think prizes for series end would be nicer.

Maybe next year the membership fee goes a little higher to give Brandon an operating budget, and at the end of the points series there are prizes. Also if we do only plaques at the end of a series we should go to 5th.

I am also happy to see that this thread is remaing civil.

Yeah, we keep a runnning tally of who wins on here.....and thats the only place it means anything to anyone. pretty sure our wives anf girlfriends could care less about some trophy we won with our "toys".

I think stickers to apply to the trucks would be cheaper and make more sense. When i played football, we got stickers on our helmuts for every tackle. at the end of the season you could tell who was making all the tackles cause they had all the stickers. Having a sheet of small vynal stickers printed up couldnt be that expensive, coursei wouldnt know, ive never done it.

i would just like to say that i think the club is great and i would like to see a 2.2 scale class next season or at least half of a season like Rene said. i think supers would be more popular if their was more challanging terrian to crawl on ( like out west)

anywhoo...i just want to thank the EL Pres and vise pres for all their hard work cheers

i cant wait for next season. i think i have found a chassis i like scratch
