PostSubject: Scorekeeping   Sun 20 May 2007, 11:33

Not to ruffle anyones feathers or anything but I think others will agree, that we may need to have more than one scorekeeper on the courses when running. I noticed quite a few reverses that were missed yesterday and even a gate or two. I'm not trying to b***ch about it, it's just fact. Atleast we need more people called out progress and penalties. Because when someone's running there is alot of talking going on and I know that can distract the scorekeeper. Easily missing reverses. I want everyone to have a fair run and I know most of you would too. I wouldn't be suprised if some were missed on me. But if I reverse and don't hear anyone call it, then I would to keep it fair. I am NOT saying anyone was doing that either. I have noticed on RCC videos that you have a few people calling out things to make sure they are counted. It has nothing to do with yesterday results but sometimes one point seperates you from another. Very Happy That's all I have to say about that. What are your thoughts?

I agree that there sould be more than one person. It seems like it is Brandon and myself that keep score. If we are writing something down and miss a retreat or a gate then somebody needs to call it. I think somebody needs to be with a scroekeeper calling stuff that they may not see. Anywho my $.02

I could not agree more Brian. I often ask for people to call out penalties as they see them. But sometimes it becomes confusing if more than one person is calling them out. I think you will even see in the USRCCA rules that they call for two people. One to call out the penalties and one to write them down. A reverse can be missed if the scorer is marking something on there sheet. I think from now on we will ask someone to score and one person to call out penalties.

I also agree on the talking during peoples runs. We have plenty of time to BS and talk during the day. But from now on we should keep it quiet during peoples runs. This would make it easier for both the judges and the driver. I did notice this yesterday. It can become distracting for sure.

Both issues can be worked on as a group. Thank you for bringing it up Brian.

hey

I agree, when I was keeping score I fergot to call out the first reverses, sorry about that.

Brian you are right. The two people score system would work better, (judge and scribe).

The per gate 20 point thing should be the responsibility of the driver to count out loud and to say when the driver chooses to point out for that gate.

Other wise we need a score card where each gate has a line.

you wont hear any complaints from me. not having a reverse counted or a gate touch is cheating in my book! I'll be glad to help call reverses. Maybe a score keeper and a timer. Timer can call points and keep track of time and the score keeper can mark down what the timer calls out. that way only one person is calling out points and the score keepr isnt hearing the word "reverse" three times.
